The monster in this odd story has a very strange diet. The great Gulper, as he is called, was caught and put in a zoo. It lived on oil, gallons a day. In the end it saved the country by drinking oil slicks from any large oil tanker accidents. The colour illustrations are quite basic.

Another monster book. Bignose was a pregnant monster with a big nose with a hole in it. She was found in the snow and looked after by some people and promptly had twins. This kind of monster has an instinctive ability to dismantle everything, for instance televisions, cars and Big Ben.

On a bus journey, I read three books. They were children’s books written by John Slater and illustrated by Christopher Slater. They were about A.mazing monsters. The tricky Troggle was caught by a mercenary spiv kind of character who charged people 10p to see the Troggle, the last one in existence. Mr Grub, the spiv, was pleased to hear that the monster only ate once a year. It ate Mr Grub’s house when he was out. It is a quirky story line. The illustrations are a little odd as well - this may be because the artist was only about ten years old at the time of drawing them.… (mere)
