Innovative 007 Score but dubious Remastering, May 22, 2003

(TOP 100 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
Eric Serra's score to GOLDENEYE is highly innovative. It is powerful, sensitive and enigmatic. It is a dark score centered on James Bond the man and explores his psyche, his sense for survival and his motivations for getting the job done. Eric Serra's compositions are unlike anything heard in the previous James Bond films of the series. The score still remains highly controversial, as does this soundtrack. Track 2: "The Goldeneye Overture" immediately departs not only from the traditional Bond orchestrations and scoring but in effect uses unorthodox synthesized sounds to create an entirely new sound for Bond. For years James Bond had come up against the Soviets numerous times. In 1995 Soviet Russia was gone. GOLDENEYE was the film that bridged a gap in more ways than one. Unfortunately the remastering of the score has removed much of the depth that can be heard in Serra's original CD. The rich bass no longer can be felt and many percussion elements seem to be muted. Track 14: "The Scale To Hell" is a good example of this. Do a comparison for yourself and see if you agree. However, Track 1: "Goldeneye" composed by Bono and The Edge and performed by Tina Turner seems to have benefited from the remastering bringing elements to the foreground that enhance this song. This song, I suppose, was symbolically a passing of the torch from the Bond of old to that of a Bond immersed in a much darker world.

Good theme, bad soundtrack, September 11, 2004
Reviewer: John D. Pride (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews

Literally every single review listed here gave this CD an abysmal review and said it sincerely sucked (it does), yet each one has 4 stars by it. What's up with that, Amazon web master? I don't think that many reviewers could be that dumb, do you?
