As others have said, this is a good book about the fundamentals of weight training. I can't say that it's the best book I've read on the subject, but certainly not the worse. My main disappointment was that so many of the exercises require machines. I was hoping for more exercises that I could do on my own, at home.

It does include information about how to create one's own weight program, as well as some interesting programs for a person to try.

This is a great reference book to have at home, if you have any kind of a weight setup (small handweights to a complete setup). It is full of great pictures for form, and clearly written instructions on how to do each exercise, and what area each focuses on. I have not put in the time for it to have worked on me (!), but am hoping to get back to it soon. I would recommend this book highly for somebody looking to consolidate a beginner's weight-training program, as well as to a more experienced trainer to get back to basics.… (mere)

This is a good basic handbook for weight training. It also is handy if you workout at home. Multiple photos for each exercise are helpful. I recommend it for a beginning weight program.

David Sandler's book Fundamental Weight Training is well composed with lots of good information and clearly written. As always, trying to take a book to the gym and reading while performing an exercise doesn't work well and a personal coach always beats interpreting a book alone. As a book of fundamentals, I would have preferred it to be aimed more at one using free weights privately at home. The author seems to assume access to many machines not available to me. The charts and explanations are very helpful. The book is high quality and I know I will benefit over time from it.… (mere)
