Leigh Rubin

This was a gift, and I've not seen Rubin's work before or since. He comes across as a poor imitator of Gary Larson. Not completely unfunny, but almost every frame seems to reference Larson in some way. The good ones bring a smile, and the not-so-good ones make you realise how acute Larson's observation and choice of themes and viewpoints really is. You may think it's pretentious to talk in that way about someone who basically makes jokes about talking cows and insects, and you may be right. But it's the fact that Rubin often picks the same themes and somehow misses the target that makes the point.… (mere)
