ROSSEN TO THE RESCUE by Jeff Rossen is a book by an author I knew very little about. Due to my schedule I, like so many work slaves, seldom see morning television. When Goodreads offered his book for consideration, I opted to try for it and managed to win a copy. Between winning and recieving my copy I did manage to catch an episode or two of his reports on the Today show and really liked them.
Then came the book and it only enhanced what I had been feeling. Mr. Rossen manages to, time and again, find an interesting subject to explore, something that probably will not affect each of our lives, but will manage to save several readers out there who have read through the book and managed to keep in mind the, usually, very simple steps to saving your, and others, lives in perilous situations.
In a few simple pages Mr. Rossen delivers live saving tips and tricks while coloring his reporting with enough self-abasement and humor to take the edge off what could well have been a dry lecture. It might be something like clamping your hand over your nose and mouth if you ever break through a frozen pond (gulping ice water can paralyze your system and. boom, you are going to die) or making sure the dream prom dress you see on line for the great price actually lives up to your expectations (Oh, not life or death perhaps, but tell that to your crying princess) or how not to get zapped by bad underground wiring while walking down the street.
There are. of course, many examples of how different service providers rip you off, and the knowledge that there are plenty of good service people who go above and beyond to provide both excellent work and tips on how to manage things on your own (the low inflate light telling you something is wrong with your tires, just add the proper amount of air and drive on.)
In short there are two major reasons for reading this book. First, it is chock full of practical hints and tips that will help you avoid both minor and major potential problems in your life, from actually saving your live to saving you time and money. Most will never happen to you, but all will happen to someone out there and this book might help you out.
The second is a much simpler reason. Mr. Rossen manages to write about the most hair raising situations you could get into with grace and wit. His ability to add charm and style to essentially a series of lectures moves this into the category of a delightful read. Furthermore. it would appear that Mr. Rossen actually cares about the people he is writing for, which is all of us. This shines through on every page and makes the reading easy and enjoyable and, in many cases, scary as hell, just as it should be.… (mere)
