I got a complimentary free copy from the author from her mailing list, thank you!

I read the #5th book from this series around a year ago, and quite frankly, this book is a lot better than the prior one. I cannot give info on the first 5 books because I haven't read them yet. I'll likely get to them sometime to cover background on the recurring characters.

If there is one good thing about the two book I have read of this series so far, the stories are charming, and while I'm certain reading all of the prior books will be helpful, you can easily understand and enjoy this book without reading them. Beatrice is getting a bit bored because there aren't any interesting cases to solve in her sleepy New England village. She's also having a hard time feeling comfortable being in Matt's company. She divorced her ex many years ago, but it seems like she still holds feelings for him and her self doubt is a recurring backstory theme in this book.

Meanwhile, the owner of a rival café named Abigail has decided to suck her pride and hires her to research a guy from an internet dating website. She suspects "Bryan" is a Nigerian scam artist, and has hired Beatrice to unravel the truth before she takes their relationship to the next stage. Beatrice asks her employee Zoe for help and they create a dating profile in the hopes that Bryan will also woo her. The only surprise here is that the guy sends her loving messages so quickly!

The kitties are having a quarrel of their own. Hamlish is attracted to the feisty Himalayan Petunia, but she is completely oblivious to his advances. A tomcat is wooing her, and she simply enjoys the attention. Can everyone keep their sanity on Valentines?

Fast, fun, with a satisfying end, I had a lot of fun reading this book!

It is almost Christmas and Cozy Cat Café owner Beatrice Young is trying to find out if her ex-husband and now live in boyfriend, Matthew Thompson, has plans to propose. She has every jewelry store owner in town on alert to call her if Matthew comes into the store. She gets that call only a couple of weeks before Christmas and goes racing to see what he picks out. Of course, she cannot let herself be seen, so she takes along her four cats to assist in her spy efforts.

She gets more than she expected. While she sees the ring he selected, she and her cats also witness a mugger steal the ring from him. It turns out that this is just one of a series of big-ticket item thefts in the community, so Beatrice and her furry friends join in the quest to find the thief.

I did like that although there are clues that suggest the culprit, it is not an obvious choice. Beatrice and Matthew are developed enough to feel as if the reader knows them, but less important characters are not as memorable.

The Mewltide Mugger is at heart a cute story, but as much as I love cats, traipsing all over town with four feline sleuths was a bit of overkill for me. Maybe it is because this is the first book I’ve read in the series, but I like to know a little more about the personality of each cat and see each one given a larger role in the story so that they stand out individually, but that didn’t happen here.

I received a free copy of this book with no obligation to review. Any opinion given here is strictly my own.

This unpretentious book is a delightful read of cats, people, weather and mild mystery.

If you are looking for a short cozy to read, and love cats, then this novella may be just the thing.

Beatrice Young spends so much of her time solving local mysteries, in cahoots with her three cats and the local sheriff, that she is thinking of setting up office as a private investigator.

This story is a cozy without a body, but there is still a serious theme: someone seems to be preying, via an internet dating site on lonely senior women, with the ultimate aim of asking them for money. Abigail Freedman, Beatrice's rival in the cafe business, has been trying to meet the Lothario she has been corresponding with but he always has an excuse. So far he hasn't asked for money... yet.

And there is another theme too: Beatrice has always remained friendly with her first husband Matt but recently she has detected a change in her feelings. A story for those who know that life doesn't end at 60!
