Clint Richmond

This was my Early Reviewers book, about the murder of a mother and daughter in the Southwest in the 1930s, and how Richmond believes that it was related to espionage. He makes a good case, but the reporting was a bit dry and too heavy on portraying the law enforcement involved as rugged cool dudes. There is a way, I know, to write about an unsolved mystery without making the reader feel that their time has been wasting in reading about it. I can't quite articulate how it works, when it does, but it didn't in this case.… (mere)

The book was a sleeper for me. I had not heard of it and had never heard of the publisher either, so I was pleasantly surprised when I began reading it. It was hard to put down.

The book involves a murder case of national prominence, but one most Americans have never heard of in the twenty-first century. The circumstances surrounding the murders of Hazel and Nancy Frome are surprising and involve Nazi spying in America. How on earth could two socialites from Californina encounter a Nazi spy ring? It does make for interesting reading!

The one fault I have with this book is the lack of maps! I do love maps and found that when I just picked up the book to read there was no map to refer to for some of the locations. If the book is reprinted - add the maps!… (mere)

This book presents the author's theory that the Frome murders were committed by members of a Nazi spy ring operating in the US. I hadn't head anything about the murders before reading this. The first part of the book reads like your average true crime book. This part I found quite boring, but that's probably because I'm not a true crime fan. The author does a very good job of constructing his theory connecting the spies to the murders. It seems like a very logical solution based on the evidence. I would have enjoyed this more if the author had focused more on the spies and their activities. I would recommend this to anyone who liked true crime or perhaps to WWII enthusiasts.… (mere)
