- Karen Renee is the author of the Riot Motorcycle Club, Beta, and O-Town series of books. She once crunched Nielsen ratings data but these days she brings her imagination to life by writing books. She has wanted to be a writer since she was very young, but it's taken the last twenty plus years for her to amass enough courage and overall life experience to bring that dream to life. Some of those life experiences came from the wonderful world of advertising, banking, and local television media research. She is a proud wife and mother, and a Jacksonville native. When she's not at the soccer field or cooking, you can find her at her local library, the grocery store, in her car jamming out to some tunes, or hibernating while she writes and/or reads books.

I love a good spunky, sassy heroine; thus, the reason that I instantly fell in love with Stephanie. She is not afraid to tell off Har. She was definitely not going to be a groupie. The more she resisted Har, the more he tried to win her over. It was very entertaining.
While I liked Har, it did take me a bit longer to warm up to him unlike Stephanie. Being the leader of a biker club did make him bossy, but it came off a bit overbearing at first. Thus, the reason I had to warm up to him. Yet, as the story progressed the chemistry between him, and Stephanie did build up to something steamy. He would do anything to protect Stephanie.… (mere)

Harm’s Way is a surprisingly sweet romance and a perfect start to the Riot MC Biloxi series. I say surprisingly because this is a story about bikers in a motorcycle club – gang? Aren’t they all crude and violent and harsh and the opposite of law-abiding? Scary monsters to be avoided? Well, there are a lot of crude, violent, harsh, law-breaking events in this book, but you’ll have to read it to find out who is responsible for all of that. But the Riot MC Biloxi is a club, and its members are as “normal” as anybody else: they have relationships, jobs, friends, families and do good works sometime. And part of their normal is their fierce loyalty to each other and a code and way of life they strictly adhere to.
Stephanie Combes can’t seem to catch a break. She fell for the wrong guy. No, not a biker. A guy with a sophisticated name, sophisticated tastes, sophisticated lifestyle – who turned out to be a complete phony who was a serial scammer. Stole her identity, her money, and her pride, privacy and self-confidence. On his way out he humiliated her to the extent she not only had to start over financially but try to stay under the radar as much as possible to avoid more shame. She’s hoping to make a fresh start as a card dealer in Biloxi.
Good plan. Until she’s trying to win a little extra money in a poker game and who does she find sitting across from her – and cleaning her out – but her ex-stepbrother’s best friend Michael “Har” Walcott. Harm. The president of the Riot MC Biloxi chapter. She tries to sneak out before he recognizes her. That doesn’t work. She tries to keep him out of her business even if she is living on the scary side of town. That doesn’t work. She absolutely, positively, most definitely does not want a relationship, especially with Harm (even if she has had a crush on him for years and if he was good looking when he was sixteen, take a good look now and be prepared to fan yourself – whew!). As for Harm, after barely surviving a bad breakup himself he’s not interested in anything beyond making sure she’s safe. Best friend’s stepsister, someone he used to know, just helping out, right?
When I was deciding about listening to this book I found an audio sample. Just a few sentences and I was hooked. Harm’s Way is so well written: dry, droll, witty, sensuous, downright sexy. Fast-paced and chock-full of action with situations and danger and intrigue that keep you listening. And of course some steamy, heated and (again surprisingly) romantic scenes that keep you breathless and swooning.
Narrators Paige Reisenfeld and Christian Leatherman are superb. Their accents and pacing make the fear, anger and lots and lots and lots of desire come through so well that you are right there with Stephie and Har. A totally satisfying story that made me want to keep on reading through the rest of the stories. i recommend it without hesitation. Home Cooked Books provided a free copy of Harm’s Way. Tiny's Problem is the 7th book from the Riot MC series by Karen Renee. This is the 1st book of Karen's that I've read. I was worried about jumping into book 7 without reading the rest of the stories first but I wasn't confused like I usually am when jumping into the middle of a series. This book really is a standalone and can be read without needing to read the rest of the series first. I liked how she took a serious situation and didn't write it as dark as some other authors would.
Sierra is a single mom who is quick to get attached and she unfortunately did that with an abusive ex she can't get to leave her alone. She shows up at the MC's bar and Tiny saves her from her ex and they have an instant connection. Tiny never thought he would find the one and when he met Sierra he knew he did. From day 1 they are inseparable and the ex-boyfriend won't get the hint. Sierra is worried they are moving really fast which is understandable. When Scrap, Sierra's son's best friend enters the picture is the best part of the book to me. I've always read MC stories where the biker was once a troubled kid until an MC member took them in until they grew up to become a member themselves and that's what Scrap is. He's a troubled kid headed down a bad road until he meets Tiny. I would love to see a book about Scrap because this one is the perfect set up and I am really interested in how he deals with what he did in this book. He's definitely my favorite character.
I gave this book a 4-star rating and a 3-spicy rating. Although the book has a lot of steamy scenes they weren't as steamy as I prefer when I'm reading them. And I felt that the book was a bit drawn out at times which made for a longer read. Karen Renee's writing reminds me a lot of K.L. Ramsey's writing so if you like her work you'll like this one. Finn's Fury is next in the series. I enjoyed this one so much that I'm going to read the rest of the series that I missed.

In Harm’s Way, the first book in the series, I thought Brute was – well, brutish. Big, tough, gruff, man of few words, total biker dude. Soft spot maybe for his ex-stepsisters, but not very nuanced. Well, happy to say I was totally wrong. T-O-T-A-L-L-Y. Yes, still big and tough, but what a sweetie. A big guy with a big heart. Many layers, loving and protective of his family, runs a successful business. Not to mention smokin’ hot.
Kenzie has reluctantly joined a dating app, more to get her mother and boss off her back than in hopes of finding a new husband. She had one and was lucky to get rid of him. She’s satisfied with her single mom life for now. Until she meets Brute. Unlike any other man she’s ever met. And she’s unlike any woman he’s ever met. Not only sparks of desire shooting between them but sometimes sparks fly when they disagree.
Good guy, sweetie, softie aside, motorcycle business can still be rough and Brute has done some bad stuff. Dangerous stuff that has the cops harassing him and has Kenzie drawn into it. Their connection is strong and just keeps getting stronger, but can he endanger her and her daughter. Is the right thing to walk away? But is that one thing this tough guy just can’t handle?
To say I’m amazed at how romance is woven into this series sounds a bit insulting, so I’ll say I’m pleased, very pleased, at how expertly author Karen Renee blends the tough with the touching. The issues the club members face are serious and the things some of them have done are dark. Most readers probably can’t relate and can only experience it through author Renee’s words. But we can absolutely relate to the humanity she brings to these guys, with their caring and protectiveness, their flip sides.
Brute’s Strength was an amazing listen, maybe even a little better than Harm’s Way, which I loved. I can’t wait for the next story in the series to see if it’s as exciting, edgy – and romantic.
