Ruairi Quinn is currently the Irish Minister for Education and is a member of Dáil Eireann representing the Labour Party of which he is a former Leader from 1997-2002. He has served in the Dáil from 1977-81 and since February 1982. He was a Senator from August 1981- Feb. 1982. He has held several other Ministerial posts including Finance, Enterprise & Employment, Labour and Public Service.

Interesting details on how Cabinet operates and formation of the Euro. Ruairi Quinn presents as a straight social democrat who is proud of his slightly underwhelming achievements and doesn't understand why social democracy has lost its way.

I won a copy of this book in a competition and had I not done so I would not have considered acquiring the book independently as it was a disappointing read. Parts of the early autobiography to do with Quinn’s upbringing and education are interesting but I found his account of his time in politics, particularly that of when he became a Minister and then Leader of the party, very self serving. One interesting anecdote was his praise for Eoghan Harris’s contribution to television ads for Mary Robinson during the 1990 Presidential Election. Few others who worked with Robinson would willingly praise Harris given that his political mobility has seen him in several different organisations.… (mere)
