A brilliant exposition on how to set right many of the ills of the Indian socio-economic scene, especially how to improve access of the less well-off to various services and opportunities. The authors give special emphasis to improving public health and medical services, primary education, finance for small businesses, and so on. They make the important point that the middle ground is poorly developed in India in many spheres, such as the medium sized enterprises, entry and retention of women in the the work force, employment opportunities for young entrants in the middle and informal sector, and so on. An eye-opening and epochal work, that should provide substantial guidance to policy makers on the required policy changes, needed improvements in governance, fine-tuning of priorities, getting more out of existing infrastructure, and so on.… (mere)
