Susan Polgar is a winner of four Women's World Championships and the top-ranked woman chess player in the United States. She became the #1 woman player in the world at 15 and remained in the top 3 for over 20 years. In 2013, she received the U.S. Coach of the Year Award and the following year, she vis mere was named the Chess Trainer of the Year by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). She thus became the first person in history to be accorded both honors. Susan Polgár was born in Budapest, Hungary, the oldest of three famous sisters, the others being Zsófia (Sofia) Polgár and Judit Polgár. She was a child chess prodigy and became the first female to earn the grandmaster title through tournament play. She's a pioneer for women in chess and an advocate for chess in education. She is an Olympic and World chess champion, a chess teacher, coach, writer, and promoter and the head of the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE) at Webster University in Missouri.

Going through "Rich as a King" is like reading two books simultaneously. Readers will come away learning more about financial investing and championship chess at the same time. Some readers may be annoyed by the insertion of the chess metaphor. Others will welcome how the discussions of chess make what could be a dry subject entertaining. The authors never lose sight, however, of the main purpose of the book—to provide sound and applicable investing guidance. The authors provide a realistic approach to investing. There are no shortcuts or get-rich-quick schemes. Both the strategic and tactical aspects of investing are thoroughly discussed. The authors make clear the need for focus and discipline if financial goals are to be achieved. This is why the chess metaphor is appropriate. Personal commitment is necessary for becoming a championship chess player or becoming financially independent. The book provides sound financial guidance while making for interesting reading.
