Susan the duck is feeling unlucky as a number of small inconveniences trouble her, but then a wolf arrives at her door announcing that she's won! First a big soup pot, then some onions, celery, carrots...just when Susan thinks her luck has run out, the wolf stumbles over Susan's lost marble, gets stuck in her empty pickle jar, bangs into her ladder, and trips into her too-big roller skate, which sails him out the door and into a hornets' nest. Susan's "bad luck" turns out to be bad for the wolf instead, and Susan shares her soup with friends. Pizzoli's bright, spot color illustration features thick outlines and green, yellow, brown, and pink-orange, making pictures that pop - great for storytime.… (mere)

Great little history of pizza and a solid explanation of how this dish spread, including via immigration to the United States, word of mouth after WWII, and some hyping up from Queen Margherita. It was also very enjoyable to see all the different ways people across the world enjoy and personalize their own pizza pies. Wonderful non-fic pick for a young foodie (or really just anyone who likes pizza).

I was obsessed with the Ninja Turtles as a child, so I was going to love this book about the history of pizza no matter what, but I can say that in addition to making me hungry, I like the way it shows the ways our foods reflect our history and the way cultures bump into each other.
