(show) Thursday, June 4 at 7pm - Heidi Pitlor, "The Daylight Marriage" AND Lauren Acampora "The Wonder Garden" Please join us on Thursday, June 4 at 7pm when we welcome two fiction writers to the Bookshop with their most recent works. Heidi Pitlor grew up in Concord, Massachusetts, and got her BA at McGill University and her MFA at Emerson College in Boston. She was a senior editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for nine years before she became the series editor of The Best American Short Stories. She has worked with Salman Rushdie, Alice Sebold, Richard Russo, Elizabeth Strout, and others. She is the author of the novel The Birthdays and her fiction and essays have appeared in Ploughshares,the Huffington Post, and Labor Day: True Stories by Today's Best Women Writers. In Fall 2015, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will publish 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories, which she coedited with Lorrie Moore. Heidi lives outside Boston with her husband and twin son and daughter.
Lauren Acampora's fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, Missouri Review, Prairie Schooner, New England Review, and Antioch Review. Raised in Connecticut, she now lives in Westchester County, New York, with her husband, artist Thomas Doyle, and their daughter.

Reading Group Choices' Book Club Bash Reading Group Choices, an organization that recommends "discussible" books to reading group members, is happy to partner with Malaprop's Bookstore on this reading group extravaganza. In our fast-paced world, reading groups can offer us the time to slow down, catch up with friends, and talk about all of the wonderful books out there. We want to celebrate those readers with a morning of wonderful giveaways, yummy snacks, and rounds of author speed dating with Maureen Corrigan, Reif Larsen, Margaret Lazarus Dean, Mary Norris, Eli Gottlieb, Joni Tevis, Chris Cander and Heidi Pitlor.
The authors will all be available to sign copies of published books and galleys of their upcoming books as well. Discounts will be provided by Malaprop's for any books purchased that day for your reading group.

 Best American Short Stories Conversation Join Porter Square Books at the Middlesex Lounge for a conversation featuring contributors to and editors of The best American short stories 2012. Participating in the conversation will be: Jennifer Haigh is a novelist and short story writer. Her first novel, Mrs. Kimble, won the PEN/Hemingway Award for debut fiction; Baker Towers won the 2006 PEN/L.L. Winship Award for outstanding book by a New England author; and her short stories have been featured in the Atlantic, Granta, and the Saturday Evening Post. Haigh's most recent novel is Faith.
Edith Pearlman is the author of 250 works of short fiction and nonfiction, which have been published in literary journals, anthologies, and online publications. Her work has appeared in The Best American Short Stories, The O. Henry Prize Collection, The Pushcart Prize, the New York Times, and Ploughshares. Pearlman was awarded the Drue Heinz Prize for Literature for her first collection of stories, Vaquita. Love Among the Greats, her second collection, won the Spokane Annual Fiction Prize. Her latest collection, Binocular Vision, was a finalist for the National Book Award and won the National Book Critics Circle Award.
Tom Perrotta is a novelist and screenwriter. His novels Election and Little Children were made into Academy Award-nominated films. Perrotta has been featured on the New York Times Book Review, Newsweek, People Magazine, and National Public Radio. In 2010, his short story, "The Smile on Happy Chang's Face" was the Boston Book Festival's first One City One Story sElection. He has taught creative writing at Harvard University and Eckerd College, and he earned a BA in English from Yale University and an MA in English and Creative Writing from Syracuse University, where he was a pupil of Tobias Wolff. Perrotta lives in Belmont. His latest novel is The Leftovers.
Heidi Pitlor is a former senior editor at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Her fiction has been published in Ploughshares, and she is the author of the novel The birthdays.
