When I first began reading Ignite I wasn't sure what to expect. I soon realized that it is much more of a young adult book than a new adult, but don't let that turn you away. I'm a huge sucker for NA novels, but trust me when I say that the plot of Ignite is just as good.

The Plot: Twenty-one year old Lauren Lindsay's life begins to spiral out of control after what was supposed to be a normal day. First she meets an extremely attractive mystery guy at the DMV which is always a bonus, but then things start to go down hill once she realizes that A)her step-mother passed away and she's faced with the choice of becoming the guardian of her three children and that B). mystery man is actually her step-sister's best friends brother/guardian.
Fate, destiny, coincidence or whatever you want to call it plays a key role in the plot. The book is filled with these coincidences and sometimes a couple of them make you want to roll your eyes. But as a whole, they actually help tie everything together, especially at the end with the letters from Lauren's dad. That was one of my favorite parts of the entire book.
As Lauren, Dean, and the kids get to know each other better, Dean and Lauren begin to reveal their past to each other. Both of them had their own baggage to deal with and I'm glad that they opened up and faced their demons together.

The Characters: I absolutely loved all the characters in this book. I mean, Dean is pretty swoony. The person I had the most trouble connecting with was ironically Lauren. Sometimes she made some dumb decisions that made me want talk some sense into her, but at the same time I kind of understood her reasoning. She's obviously been through a lot and with her responsibility of taking care of these three children, whom she hasn't spent a lot of time with makes her emotional reactions understandable, especially at the age of 21.
Lauren undergoes the largest amount of character development in Ignite. In both YA and NA novels, character development plays an enormous part in the plot. I was glad to see Lauren's character change throughout the novel, but also other characters such as Callie and Dean as well.
On the subject of Callie, I definitely enjoyed the family dynamic between her, Chase, Emma, Lauren, and Dean. Even though it took a while for them to warm up to Lauren, I loved the supportive and easy going relationship shown between all of them. Lauren's best friend, Kenzie was another of my favorite characters. She always looked out for Lauren and provided some comic relief during the novel. Emma was probably my favorite out of all of them (even Dean) just because of her cuteness and innocence. She was so sweet and adorable that there's no way I couldn't like her.

The Romance: I admit that when Lauren first met Dean I was scared of the oncoming romance all because of my pet peeve of instalove. Obviously Lauren and Dean had strong chemistry together and they were going to be together at some point, but I was glad that their relationship was a slow build up instead rushed. Dean had some flirty lines at times that made me laugh.

Overall Ignite was a pretty good story that was fast paced and filled with great characters. Fans of contemporary romance will enjoy this book!

I honestly don’t know how to rate this book but I decided to give it a 2—an it-was-okay.

Why? Well, the story was good but also
THIS BOOK IS BUTTERFLYING RIDICULOUS.

Yeah, and I don’t mean funny ridiculous, but absurd ridiculous.

It didn’t have any direction. AT ALL. Everything was just...happening. It was like everything and nothing at all. There were so many things wrong with this book (like being in a hospital one day so close to death then hopping on a plane the very next day, like WTF-ever?!!!) but I kept on reading, scrolling down until I got to the last page hoping that something would happen with the plot along the way but

IT

WAS

SO

BUTTERFLYING

FLAT.

Seriously. I mean, there were good parts of the book but some just didn’t make sense or happened completely out of the blue that I was left frustrated, thinking, I could write this scene better. It was like a total waste of time but I can’t help but want to know the real, complete story, you know? And that’s one of the very short list of the redeeming qualities of this book—making readers curious. So when I read at the end that Dean has his own side of the story, I can’t help but get excited because I think that this time, it might get better and everything that happened here in Ignite might make sense. Obviously, I don’t have high expectations. *huffs* Well, I guess we should see.

I started reading a little bit after 10 p.m. on August 26 and finished at exactly 12:27 midnight. I just wanted to keep reading! It was so cute and such a sweet story. And how could I go to sleep when Dean Powell is Henry Cavill’s look-alike?

It had it’s funny moments, it’s serious moments, love moments, family moments…it has everything a great contemporary story would have. I was so comitted to the book, especially to the amazing Emma! That cutie is amazing and I love her!

IGNITE is a powerful, coming-of-age story that shows us that no matter what life throws at us, we can stay strong. It teaches us forgiveness and committed love. Plus, it has a scene of being stuck with Dean *cough* Henry Cavill cough* inside a cabin when an avalanche is going on. Hot, right?! Well, not hot since it is cold because of the snow…but their heating feelings will be enough :D

This story can be read by anyone and everyone that loves a good contemporary novel, and yes, this does include young adults as well as adults.

I loved each character. I guess you could say that everyone can identify with any of these characters individually or with all of them. While reading, I found a bit of myself in each of the characters, which had me surprised and happy to finally have found a book like that. This is a slow-paced book, taking things slowly. If you know me, I do NOT like slow-paced books, until IGNITE appeared. If you want a break from a lot of drama books, paranormal, fantasy, and just want a relaxing book to read that can make you smile and happy, then definitely buy IGNITE.
