Thrilling, visceral, brilliant- a bit heavyhanded with its political and moral messages at times but an altogether hallucinatory trip through the reaches of guilt and childhood.

I wasn't enjoying this book per se, but it was going along inoffensively enough for me to keep reading when something very strange happened. There was a scene, told from the perspective of rabbits, where an older rabbit just ejaculates everywhere. Literally just jizzes in the middle of the scene. I was pretty much over the book at that point. It was off-putting to say the very least.

As for the rest of the book (which bills itself as a novel, but is written in the now inescapable style of interwoven short stories), it was mostly unremarkable. The first two stories were the best written, but the rest range from boring to "why??".… (mere)

This felt like an experimental novel, with narratives from a multitude of characters (including rabbits...) and I found myself feeling dissatisfied, confused and frustrated. Rather than learn more about a place and period in recent history, I learnt only that I should stay away from experimental writing!

This collection of stories takes place primarily in Columbia during war, and in New York. It is a mélange of stories about characters that fit into each other’s lives in strange ways.

It is not easy to write a review about this book. First,it is comprised of random stories with some of the same characters. They do not fit together well. Second, this story rambles in psychedelic fantasy that is oftentimes disturbing. However, in order to give a fair review, I forced myself to read the book in its entirety. At times, it wasn’t easy.

I wanted to like this book, hoping to find some treasure in it, or in its message. I did not.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
