The Bound Worlds is the final book in the Devoured Worlds trilogy and it was very good. We left off with Naira and Tarquin finding a new home with a settlement on Seventh Cradle. Their new home is nearly destroyed in a terrorist attack that is stopped by Naira. However, in doing so, her cracked mind (humans in the future can be "printed" similar to 3D printing today with their memories and experiences stored on neural maps that can be "cracked" or broken) has a new symptom: she is seeing other times, past and future, but is it real? What does it mean and how can they figure out how to defeat the canus infection that is spreading?

I won't go into further details about plot to avoid spoilers but I can say that there is a lot going on here. By the third book in a trilogy, you would think that the world building is complete but we learn new things about the world that they are on along with additional character development. There are plenty of twists and turns, plenty of aggravating chapters involving Tarquin struggling with his dual focus of protecting the settlement and keeping his love Naira safe. Sometimes the romance part of this book was frustrating to read. There were some big concepts introduced in this book that could have taken this book off the rails but I thought the author did a good job of explaining what was going on and how everything worked.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this trilogy to space opera fans--it was very well done and I will look for other works by this author. All three books in this series were well done.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Orbit for providing an early copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback.

....last in the trilogy. there were a lot of things i liked about this series, but it never quite jelled for me - it was okay as an (oddly ambitious) shallow adventure story, but i wanted more from it, largely because i thought i could see more peeking out from under it from time to time. for instance some bits made me think of Keith Laumer's Retief stories (there's a lot of espionage sf in this, but no character that's as interesting as Retief), and of Lois Bujold's Vorkosigan. but the characters were not as interesting, the backgrounds were mostly bland, and the plot often solved its plot knots by the seat of its pants, leaving the reader to go all 'what? no way!' i haven't given up on this author, though, and i will try another book of hers again in a couple of years.… (mere)

... middle of the trilogy, and i'm still not really hooked, though it's got its moments. but i still think it can get it together and do more with its material. it doesn't help that the characters are kind of stock. on the other hand it has some real momentum going as an adventure saga, and i'm rooting for the author because i'm interested in espionage sf, but so far it's mostly glib rather than deep. it's an interesting central idea, though, leaning towards some kind of first person emergence. onward to the last in the set....… (mere)
