Eight years after the Joker was defeated, Bruce Wayne has given up the Batman mantle whenever a masked terrorist known as Bane enters the fray and enacts a plan to destroy Gotham. Bruce is forced to return to his identity as the Dark Knight, although for the toughest threat he's faced thus far.

It had been a long time since I'd watched this final chapter in the Dark Knight Trilogy -- and it, much like its previous films, has so much greater of an impact on me now than it did when I was a kid. The performances are top-notch yet again -- Christian Bale and Michael Caine offer possibly their best outings as Bruce and Alfred yet, and so many of the newcomers do great in their jobs. The way that Bane was handled was also very good, differing from other adaptations where he was just the muscle meant to get in Batman's way. I mean, he still is, but he's much more than that. I do feel that the plot wasn't as subversive as The Dark Knight's, but that's to be expected when that movie was SO GOOD. There's still a great deal of intrigue and deception at play here, and it wraps this trilogy up in a nice bow that cements it as one of my favorite trilogies of all-time. Highly recommended.

Content Concerns: The usual violence of the previous films is also present here, up to par with The Dark Knight. There are also about 11 uses of milder profanity throughout.

As the Joker unleashes a carefully-concocted plan to break Gotham City to its core, Batman joins forces with Lt. James Gordon and D. A. Harvey Dent to thwart the Joker's plans -- although they are all wholly unprepared for the ensuing chaos.

This film has it all -- exciting superhero action, a suspenseful, thriller-like story, and tons of plot twists that are only made greater by the cast and crew behind it. Nolan's filmmaking is superb, as are the performances of the main cast, especially Bale and Ledger as Batman and the Joker. It really has an epic feel to it, one that almost puts it on par with The Lord of the Rings (my personal favorite films, which is high praise for The Dark Knight). Highly recommended.

Content Concerns: A ton of fast-paced, frenetic action violence, although much is not graphic or dwelt upon. One character suffers serious burn scars, which are present in the final third of the film. There are also about 10 uses of profanity throughout, including one unfortunate use of "g-dd-mn" near the end.
