Articles on wedding cakes, war ballooning, Punch and Judy, acrobats, street toys, the handwriting of John Ruskin and Brigadier Gerard by Conan Doyle - and more. A treasure trove.

Worth it just for the first sentence of Vanishing Valentines by W.G.Fitzgerald - 'At the present day, when ladies in bifurcated nether garments may be seen awheel in Piccadilly...' Also articles on photography. head shapes, girls schools and tobogganing in the Engadine - as well as Conan Doyle (The exploits of Brigadier Gerard).

These volumes sat on shelves at the end of my bed and i read them a lot as a child. Sherlock Holmes is in this volume as well as articles on freaks and sundials and ears and chairs and all sorts. I love the binding too even if ink is splurged all over this one. Was that me?

This is a collection of black & white photos from WW II. Because it is a British publication, the photos show British and Commonwealth troops in action. The captions are appear to be very accurate. One of the photos of D-Day identifies the troops leaving the landing craft with bicycles on their shoulders as Canadians which I know is accurate for it is the cover picture on a history of the Canadians efforts entitled Juno Beach. Defi9nitely fun to dip into and browse.
