John Naisbitt was an American writer and public speaker. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 15, 1929. He studied at Harvard University, Cornell University, and the University of Utah. His career included working for IBM and Eastman Kodak. He gained experience in politics working as an vis mere assistant to the Commissioner of Education during the Kennedy administration and as special assistant to HEW Secretary John Gardner during the Johnson administration. In 1968 he founded the Urban Research Corporation and later, the Naisbitt China Institute at Tianjin University. He is best known for his first book, Megatrends: Ten New Directions Transforming Our Lives, published in 1982. It was on the New York Times bestseller list for two years. In 1985, he published Reinventing the Corporation. His other books included Megatrends 2000 (1990), Global Paradox (1994), Megatrends Asia (1996), High Tech High Touch (1999), Mind Set! (2006), and China's Megatrends (2010). He received 15 honorary doctorates in humanities, technology, and science. His work in future studies influenced people around the world. Erfolg gibt ihm recht, aber John Nasbitt scheint mir zu sehr in Technologien zu denken, flexibel zwar, aber er erkennt m.E. nicht die wirkliche Revolution unserer Zeit, den tatsächlichen neuen Intellekt: die demokratische, kooperative Wissenssammlung bzw. -anwendung. Jeder hat Zugang, jeder lernt und zusammen entsteht ein Verhalten, das sowohl Gruppen als auch Einzelne stärkt. Durch das Internet.

Vom hohen Thron herunterzukommen und zu erkennen, dass das Geschäft der Zukunftsvorhersage aus den Händen gleitet, das scheint sein Problem. Und nicht ohne (vielleicht unbewussten) Grund fügt er am Ende des Buches einen Brief von Darwin, am Ende seines Lebens geschrieben, ein:

"Bis 30 habe ich es genossen, aber seit vielen Jahren kann ich keine einzige Zeile eines Gedichtes mehr lesen. Mein Verstand scheint zu einer Art Maschine gewesen zu sein, die allgemeine Gesetze filtert. Und könnte ich nochmal leben, ich würde es mir zum Gesetz machen, mehrmals in der Woche Gedichte zu lesen und Musik zu hören. Der Verlust dieser Eigenschaft ist ein Verlust an Glück."

Nichts ist falsch an diesem Buch, bestechend gute Beispiele, irgendwie stimmig alles - und doch: Entscheidendes fehlt. Leider.

Yeah, I read it. Read Alvin Toffler too. Megatrends had its 15 minutes, which unfortunately, ran all the way into the 90's. There were a number of authors who did the same dance, sang the same song. One thinks of George Gilder, Esther Dyson, or Faith Popcorn. These books serve some purpose, if nothing else they get us to think about where we are going as a society. The sad thing is that we only think about it till we get bored, or distracted by some new fad. Then the future comes up on us quick and takes a bite out of us. We need to stop think in 10 second sound bits, powerpoint slides, and start thinking and solving for the long term.… (mere)

> LES DIX COMMANDEMENTS DE L'AVENIR, par John Naisbitt. — Ce livre publié en 1982, tentait de présenter le monde de demain vue sous dix angles différents. le livre s'adressait principalement aux nord-américains que nous sommes. Avec un regard de 2005, plusieurs propos paraissent banales mais on doit se remettre dans le contexte de l'époque ou nous étions en attente de l'arrivée du Commodore 64 et que IBM n'avait pas encore produit de PC. Prédire la société informatique était très futuriste. D'autres commandements sont aussi très actuels tel que la mondialisation de l'économie, le déplacements de la production manufacturière vers le tiers monde, la décentralisation des décision en entreprise, le long terme qui supplantera le court terme, les initiatives politiques de plus en plus locales et la société multi-options (saveur de yougourt, station de télévision et même modèle familiale) Ce livre se veut donc une photo de notre époque prise à partir du passé.
Extrait : « -"…le déplacement Nord-Sud est intimement imbriqué à trois autres grandes tendances : 1. la transformation de notre société industrielle en une société informatique; 2. le passage de l'économie nationale à l'économie mondiale; la réorganisation de notre société centralisé en une société décentralisée." - "Avant peu se proclamer Démocrate ou Républicain sera ouvertement considéré comme un signe d'étroitesse d'esprit ou d'arriération mentale." -"Vous souvenez-vous de l'époque où toutes nos baignoires étaient blanches, tous nos téléphones noirs et tous nos chèques bancaires verts?" »

Questo fa coppia con il libro sui cigni neri, con la differenza che è stato sritto nel 2006 - fa coppia come esempi, come spavalderia, come saccenza. Le intuizioni di N. sono abbastanza pratiche: il mondo nel quale vive l'autore è tuttavia un mondo lussuoso, tra alberghi a cinque stelle, interessi artistici, grandi nomi del gotha economico e politico. Puo' darsi che quello sia un punto di vista privilegiato per capire dove andrà il mondo, ma istintivamente ne rifuggo. (anche se la previsione dell'Europa futura, destinata ad essere meta di turisti ricchi asiatici e americani - e non più luogo di produzione, innovazione e lavoro, nel lungo periodo - è tristemente condivisibile).… (mere)
