- Lionel Naccache was born in Sarcelles, France. He attended the École Normale Supérieure and earned his medical degree and his DES in neurology at the University of Paris-Descartes in 1998. In 2010, he was appointed professor of medicine at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. He is a researcher in cognitive neuroscience at the Brain and Spinal Cord Institute, and was appointed in 2013 as a member of the National Ethics Committee. Prof. Naccache's scientific interests lie mostly in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, subliminal stimuli, brain mapping and consciousness. His studies in cognitive psychology are interdisciplinary in nature, drawing from both cognition and perception. He works with patients suffering from neurological or psychiatric disorders, as well as studying healthy cognition using experimental cognitive psychology paradigms combined with functional brain imaging techniques. In 2017, he presented a series called Parlez-vous cerveau? (Do You Speak Brain?), designed with his wife Karine Naccache, on the radio network France Inter. The series was adapted and published in a book with the same name in 2018. His other published works include L'Homme réseau-nable : Du microcosme cérébral au microcosme social (Networkable Man: From Cerebral Microcosm to Social Microcosm, 2015); Le chant du signe: Aventures et mésaventures de nos interprétations quotidiennes (The Song of the Sign: Adventures and Misadventures of Our Daily Interpretations, 2017); Le Cinéma intérieur: Projection privée au cœur de la conscience (Inner Cinema: Private Screening at the Heart of Consciousness, 2020); and Apologie de la discrétion: Comment faire partie du monde (Apology for Discretion: How to be Part of the World, 2022). Prof. Naccache is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the 2021 grand prix Eloi-Collery de l'Académie nationale de médecine (French National Academy of Medicine). In 2018, he was named a member of the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiative (DABI).
