This collection is a trip down that boulevard of broken men and broken dreams and rundown, dirty motels at the edge of town. The stories here are filled with men and women at the end of their ropes, trying to hold it all together before everything goes to hell. There are people who kill because they have no choice and people who kill and don't even know why. There are people fleeing to Ecuador and people having a beer and waiting for that knock on the door and the car with flashing lights in the driveway. There are people stuck in deadend jobs, deadend lives, and deadend relationships. There are people trying to go straight, but whose past still haunts them. Somehow all these stories fit together well like puzzle pieces, although they will often leave you gasping for air. This is pure good stuff here. No artificial sweeteners.… (mere)
