Elaine Moss was a children's book author and editor. She was born in London, England in 1924. She attended St Paul's girls' school in London and read English literature at Bedford College, which is today part of Royal Holloway, University of London. Her career included working as a teacher, a vis mere librarian, and personal assistant to the publisher Grace Hogarth at Constable Young Books. There she read children's books and advised them on what should be published. In 1961 she edited Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels to make it readable for younger children. Her first story was Wait and See Book (1964), it was followed by Twirly (1965), Polar (1975). She wrote a memoir, Part of the Pattern (1986). She contributed articles and interviews for Signal, a journal about children's literature. In 1977, she won the Eleanor Farjeon award for outstanding service to the world of children's books.
