SMILE! It's Raina Telgemeier with her new book "Sisters" This event will be held at Oblong Books & Music, 6422 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck, NY. Share this event on Facebook! Recommended for Kids Grades 3-7 Sisters, is the companion to Raina Telgemeier's #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling and Eisner Award-winning graphic memoir, Smile. At this event Raina will talk about, and read from Sisters and sign copies of her books.
Raina can't wait to be a big sister. But once Amara is born, things aren't quite how she expected them to be. Amara is cute, but she's also a cranky, grouchy baby, and mostly prefers to play by herself. Their relationship doesn't improve much over the years, but when a baby brother enters the picture and later, something doesn't seem right between their parents, they realize they must figure out how to get along. They are Sisters, after all.
Raina Telgemeier is the author and illustrator of the graphic novels Smile and Drama, both #1 New York Times bestsellers. She also adapted and illustrated four graphic novel versions of Ann M. Martin's Baby-Sitters Club series, and has contributed short stories to many anthologies. Raina's accolades include an Eisner Award, a Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor, a Stonewall Honor, and many Best Of and Notable lists.

Ann M. Martin is the author of the iconic and beloved The Baby-Sitters Club series which has sold over 176 million copies and inspired a generation of young readers. Her acclaimed novels include Belle Teal, the Newbery Honor book A Corner of the Universe, Here Today, A Dog’s Life, and On Christmas Eve, as well as the much-loved collaborations P.S. Longer Letter Later and Snail Nail No More with author Paula Danziger, and The Doll People and The Meanest Doll in the World, written with Laura Godwin and illustrated by Brian Selznick. She lives in upstate New York. Family Tree, is her poignant new quartet, which brings the past and the present together one girlhood at a time, and shows readers the way a family grows. In Book 1: Better to Wish, Martin gives readers a moving and at times heartbreaking story about friends and family, life and death, and finding one’s self. In it, readers are taken into the 1930s with eight-year-old Abby Nichols, a girl who lives in a small coastal town in Maine.
Mark Goldblatt is a theologian, novelist, columnist and book reviewer as well as a professor at Fashion Institute of Technology of the State University of New York. His controversial first novel, Africa Speaks, a satire of black urban culture, was published in 2002 by The Permanent Press. His second novel, Sloth, a comedic take on postmodernism, was published in 2010 by Greenpoint Press. The Unrequited, a literary mystery, followed in 2013 — as did Twerp. Inspired by Goldblatt's own childhood growing up in 1960s Queens, Twerp shines with humor and heart. This remarkably powerful story will have readers laughing and crying right along with these flawed but unforgettable characters.
Geoff Rodkey is the author of the Chronicles of Egg middle grade adventure series and the Emmy-nominated screenwriter of such hit films as Daddy Day Care, RV, and the Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas. Geoff grew up in Freeport, Illinois, and began his writing career on his high school newspaper, the oddly named Pretz News. While in college, he was an editor of both the Harvard Lampoon humor magazine and the Let’s Go travel guide series. His early writing credits include the educational video game Where In the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, the non-educational MTV series Beavis and Butt-head, and Comedy Central’s Politically Incorrect. The first two Chronicles of Egg books, Deadweather Sunrise and New lands, are available now from Putnam/Penguin. The final volume in the trilogy, Blue Sea Burning, comes out in April 2014. Geoff currently lives in New York City with his wife and three sons. They do not have any pets, mostly because the whole experience with the goldfish was just too upsetting.
