I think this book had a lot of good information in it. There were many examples that I believe many people could relate to such as playing basketball, lifting weights or even just playing with a beach ball. I feel like the author did a very good job explaining gravity and the role it plays/ impact it has on daily tasks not just things like astronauts and space stations. A text feature that I appreciated about the book was that important science terms were in bold letters, this gives students a cue that this is important! This book I think would be good to use as a read aloud or independently for students.… (mere)

The book Motion: First Science by Kay Manolis shares with readers information about motion. The book not only presents the concept of motion in a kid friendly way with picture supports, but it does so by utilizing features of text. It has a variety of features of text throughout the book. It begins with a contents page that displays a topic, which becomes the subtitles in the book. It also has vocabulary words that are the technical terms, which can be found in bold. These technical terms are explained with examples and defined at the end in the glossary. The book also has a fun fact on just about every other page that pertains to the topic. This not only engages the student, but makes the content more interesting. Lastly, the book has thought provoking questions embedded throughout the read that engages readers in the content and provides a moment to reflect on the question about the content. Overall, I feel this book would be a great read for first/second graders, as the content is interesting and is within their reading level. I also feel this could be a great read aloud as it has so many features of text with which the teacher could use to introduce and explain those features to the class.… (mere)

YES! I love that every single picture in this book is something that a student could relate to. I would use this book as an anticipatory set for 2-3 graders.
