Andrea Mandel-Campbell

Great title! This book looks at why Canadians need to increase their international competitiveness, and how companies and governments could accomplish this. The author is a journalist, and the book is very readable. There is a good mix of interesting stories, solid analysis, and practical advice. The latter was a pleasant surprise; I find so many books on public policy either re-hash old recommendations or proscribe actions that aren't realistic.

Trade policy isn't my favourite topic (I read this for a book club), but I enjoyed this book. Some of the examples used to illustrate points even made me chuckle a few times!

The book agrues that Canadians are complacent and our standard of living is at risk if we don't become more entrepreneurial on a global scale. It tries to be a "call to arms", but I am not sure it has does enough to convince Canadians that there is an "enemy" on the horizon.… (mere)
