This book is part of the Scholastic Rookie Preschool series; however, the age group most associated with it would be better in kindergarten and 1st grade. The book is read like a melody and has the words “That you ever did see”, and “all around” repeating at the end of each line. The Leaves Fall All Around is centered on a single tree and its inhabitants and the area around the tree over the course of all four seasons. A girl sings a song about the leaves falling and as the pages are turned, the tree begins to change as the seasons change. The book tells the story of the trees leaves growing and then changing into gold, It tells of squirrels looking for nuts and pumpkins growing around it, it than tells of the tree losing all of its leaves as snow falls around it. I think this book is appropriate for higher age groups, such as kindergarten and 1st grade students because of the subject matter. The book uses a tree to explain how seasons change and how weather effects the environment.… (mere)
