Calista Taylor

Dr. Cat Ross is in Scotland to research the whereabouts of the Highland Hope, a priceless bejeweled necklace with significant historical value. She needs help from the MacCraigh clan since she suspects the necklace is hidden somewhere on their property. She just didn’t expect to have a flat tire as she’s driving up to meet the family, nor did she think a gorgeous man in the Jag would nearly run her over.
Iain MacCraigh is the laird of the clan, he’s some type of businessman (real estate, I think), and he’s in charge of taking care of his immediate family even though his father is still alive and well. He has a lot of responsibility and only dates models. After he leaves an angry woman on the road to deal with a flat tire herself, he didn’t expect to later find her in his castle talking with his dad.
Iain and Cat have great chemistry and the sexual tension was off the charts, but they argued a lot. They’re both stubborn and their tempers often clashed, which sometimes made them unlikable. Iain is dealing with family issues—his unrepentant brother owes a million plus dollars to some criminals—and Cat can’t escape the clutches of her ex-boyfriend, a fellow colleague who is determined to claim the discovery of the necklace for himself.
I enjoyed the mystery of the necklace, and Iain and Cat’s search for it, but there were a lot of starts and stops to finding it. I mean, they would discover a clue and then suddenly have to stop searching because something would distract them. Again and again. This made the story drag a little.
I liked the way the author weaved the historical information about the Jacobites into the story without coming across as lecturing in big info dumps. I find this time-period in Scottish history very interesting, so I loved all the references and facts thrown in.
Even though everything is wrapped up at the end, I don’t like how Iain’s brother doesn’t get in trouble for his mistakes. It’s obvious he’ll cause more problems in the future and that makes for a loose end when it comes to Iain and Cat’s HEA, in my opinion.
Overall, I enjoyed the romance and especially the mystery. I like the writing style, I didn’t find any typos, and would like to read more from the author.

when i chose this book, i was hoping more steampunk and mystery and less romance. what i got was Romanze, some mystery and it is not considered steampunk just because you mention an apparatus. I hardly ever read reviews before reading a book myself, After i managed to get to 22% in the book, I looked at some reviews to see if other readers had the same problem. They did. This book was a quite a bit a let down. I am not sure if i will try it at a later time. The characters were sappy, superficial and predictable. While reading the book, i wished it was done already. I stopped where i did, since live is too short to keep reading a bad book just because you want to complete it. The book was free on Amamzon Kindle, otherwise it would have been a bit upsetting.… (mere)

[Reason for purchasing:
I was browsing Kindle books on Amazon; looking for new books to read, and clicked on this one, I probably should have read the synopsis first!!! Ughhh…. however, seeing that it was FREE and all, I just went with it, and didn't cancel or delete the novel… it can't be that bad, right?]

For starters, it was a VERY, VERY short read, approximately 40 pages.

Once I read it I was shaking my head at ever having mistakenly gotten this book that didn't seem to have a story or any redeeming features, merely an exercise in sexual happenings. There wasn't much story-line to get into. The story line could be interesting but for me it was boring and I didn't find any substance within the characters to even want me to keep reading about them. :(

Even though it was FREE, it was NOT worth the time, and for only a few pages. And OMFG a CLIFFHANGER!!!!!

I'm definitely going to start reading the synopsis, especially with FREE books!!

I usually don't give low ratings, so with this novel I was generous with the rating giving it a 3, when I would have given it a 1/5 or 0/5 stars….

Okay, your going to read all these reviews about it being demeaning etc.
But I really don't remember that. I know I didn't feel that way when I read it.
The H is definitely a Rich guy that does some really jacked up things to get the h's attention in and out of the bed. And you can say he's a A-hole. But, this is Erotica and the billionaire trope. Almost all them have the same A-Hole personalities and this is no different.
The story was okay but what the real problem with this book is
Boring and extremely repetitive.
I've read a couple of this author's books and it was the same in that one.
Boring, Repetitive, Redundant.
This author ended up on my 'Author Rejected' shelf. It is not an easy shelf to get on. I've very picky about putting an author on it. But after trying a few of her books and it was the same in each, she found herself there. And this book is on my 'Book Rejected' shelf.
