Lucas has an authority on the subject I can't even come close to matching, so criticising the content of the book seems simply wrong. However taken as a whole the stories told seemed not to have a particularly coherent definition of luck and instead seemed more to be a collection of tales from friends and colleagues. The quality of some of these tales was outstanding, others, less so. I feel the book might have been better had it been more heavily edited, so sometimes it felt a drag to complete rather than something to relish.… (mere)

An anthology of lucky pilot moments ranging over aerial warfare. Lucas was really the editor, and the book passed the time.

Erratic and philosophically unconvincing, this is a cracking collection of anecdotes loosely involving some supposed "chance" aspects of air warfare. The tales are introduced and editorialised by the editor, whose interjections are presented in italic text and at some length - judicious editing of the editor's contributions would have made the book more readable. Nevertheless, a fascinatingly broad selection of stories from pilots and crew over the history of aerial combat.
