Frederic Lindsay was born in Maryhill, Glasgow, Scotland on August 12, 1933. He graduated from Glasgow University with a degree in English literature. Before becoming a full-time author in 1978, he worked as a lecturer, a teacher and a library assistant. He wrote 13 novels during his lifetime vis mere including 8 police procedurals featuring the DI Jim Meldrum. Two of his novels were adapted for the screen: Brond as a three-part television drama in 1987 and Jill Rips for cinema in 1997. He also wrote for the stage and for radio.
