According to Master Liao, the great power of T'ai Chi cannot be realized without knowing its inner meaning. T'ai Chi Classics presents the inner meaning and techniques of T'ai Chi movements through translations of three core classics of T'ai Chi, often considered the 'Tai Chi Bible.' The texts are introduced by three chapters explaining how to increase inner energy (ch'i), transform it into inner power (jing), and project its inner power outward to repel an opponent without physical contact. Mster Liao also provides a description of the entire sequence of T'ai Chi movements, illustrated by his own line drawings.

Master Waysun Lao studied T'ai Chi in central Taiwan before coming to the United States, where he has taught the art for thirty years. He also practices herbal medicine, acupuncture, and feng-shui.

The concept of Chi is central to the disciplines of Tai Chi and Chi Gong. It is usually described as a form of energy, but many details are often left in obscurity. In the succinctly entitled "Chi" Master Waysun Liao clearly defines the concept and discusses its relationship to yin and yang. Liao describes the way in which the artificial aspects of the modern world separate people from contact with their Chi. This in turn weakens this source of energy and causes us to develop a false sense of self. The recommended corrective is to practice meditation and moving mediation, which are designed to allow us to perceive Chi and to enhance it. The later part of the book consists of illustrations of Tai Chi movements, but these are better learned from video sources than from books, even well illustrated ones.… (mere)
