Stella ist alleine zu Hause. Sie hat schon lange nicht mehr das Haus verlassen, weil sie Panikattacken hat. An einem Winterabend mit viel Schnee klingelt es an der Türe. Ein junges Mädchen verlangt Einlass. Nach einigem Zögern öffnet Stella tatsächlich die Türe. Bald schon weiß Stella nicht was, sie glauben soll, denn das Mädchen, das sich Blue nennt, erzählt unglaubliche Geschichten. Stella ist verstört. Erzählt Blue Lügen? Oder sind ihre Behauptungen wahr? Oder ist sie eine Psychopathin und spielt mit Stella.
Die Geschichte liest sich gut und sehr flüssig. Erzählt wird in unterschiedlichen Zeitebenen.
Zwei Jahre zuvor führte Stella noch ein normales Leben. Sie arbeitet als Psychologin. Obwohl sie noch Anfängerin ist, ist sie ehrgeizig und selbstbewusst. Sie möchte ihrem Chef Max imponieren. Doch dann geschieht etwas, dass sie völlig aus der Bahn wirft und sie zu einer Frau mit Panikattacken macht, die sich nur noch in ihrem zur Festung ausgebauten Haus aufhält. Ihr Verhalten ist mir fremd und ich kann mich nicht in sie hineinversetzen. Max ist manipulativ und unsympatisch.
Aus der Sicht einer Patientin wird dann ein anderer Strang erzählt. Eine junge Frau ist bei einem Psychiater in Behandlung. Sie versucht ihn zu verführen.
Last but not least ist das der Gegenwartsteil mit Blue und Stella alleine im Haus. Stella hat Angst und die ist gut spürbar. Sie fragt sich, warum sie die Tür aufgemacht hat und ob sie in Gefahr ist. Was bezweckt Blue? Ihre Geschichten wirken nicht glaubhaft. Aber sie hat ein Ziel.
Das Buch ist als Psychothriller deklariert und ich habe sehr viel Spannung erwartet. Obwohl die Zusammenhänge erst zum Ende beschrieben werden, war schon ziemlich früh klar, wohin die Reise geht. Daher ging Spannung verloren und ich wurde nicht richtig gefesselt. Ich habe mich immer gefragt, warum Stella, die ja selbst Psychologin ist, diese Psychospielchen nicht durchschaut.
Nicht schlecht, aber auch nicht wirklich überzeugend.… (mere)

With a prologue entitled 'The day she died' I knew straight away that I was going to be up all night reading this book, and I wasn't wrong. I would have read it in one sitting had I not needed to eat and feed my I'm a Celebrity addiction.

The clever hook from the prologue is that we don't know who finds the body of Vivien. Indeed, what kind of person would find a dead body and not report it? Could it be the same person who killed her, or was it a suicide as it appears? So many questions were flying through my mind as I was reading this book and I really couldn't read it fast enough. Thankfully, all questions are answered with flashbacks telling us what actually happened and I hadn't guessed at all, so it was an amazing reveal for me at the end.

This is written in a way that the reader examines all the main characters and comes up with any number of reasons as to why they might have killed Vivien, whilst still wondering if it was perhaps a suicide. At different points in the book I thought each one of them could have done it; Ben the husband; Rose the mother; and stalker/femme fatale Cleo - slipping too easily into a dead woman's still warm shoes. I frequently alternated between murder and suicide as Vivien's mental state is explored.

The story is written from the point of view of Rose, Vivien's mother. Vivien and Rose didn't have a good relationship and I felt that Rose tried to compensate for this by her emotional attachments to the babies she looks after in the intensive care ward. Rose also tries to make up for her failings with Vivien by trying to be a grandmother to Lexi, Vivien's daughter whom she has hardly seen since she was born. I really felt for Rose - she had made mistakes in the past and I hoped she would get the opportunity to right her wrongs.

Forget Me Not is a superb book that really kept on my toes trying to work out what had happened and I would never have guessed the ending in a million years.
