Obviously, this is a well illustrated book. There are over a hundred reproduced maps and parts of maps. as well as a chronology of map-making expeditions, and biographies of prominent cartographers who have worked on this attractive island, There are some colourful asides, mostly dealing with the political lives of the men engaged in funding the work. A good read, but I recommend bringing a magnifying glass to the reading, as some of the detail would be more interesting if presented in a larger format. The general reader should be informed slightly on the history of VI to extract the maximum value from the book.… (mere)
