The text is supported by some excellent illustrations, but the rather idiosyncratic layout, minimal table of contents, and lack of an index do not make this the easiest of reads.
An essential book for any historian of Scottish pubs and the brewing industry. Although the illustrations are only in black and white they provide a clear sense of the opulence that it was possible to create in pubs of the late Victorian and Edwardian period. The craftsmanship and the architectural excellence described in this book would be difficult, if not impossible, to replicate today. Indexed.
