This was not the silly, sweet vampire-couple-raise-a-baby romance I was expecting from the lighthearted title, description, cover, and reviews, being quite a bit darker. The MCs are constantly being gravely injured in their line of work (fighting demons and rogue vampires), and the family is in danger from being “outed” as vampires. There is spousal abuse that I guess we’re supposed to not care about, or maybe forgive, because the couple are both vampires? Not bad, and still an interesting read, but not what I expected.… (mere)

This was definitely not a "cookie-cutter" type of book. And I loved every word of it. Not that I was sure what to expect, to be frank.

I loved the idea of little snippets out of each year of Jacob's life. It was an unusual concept and I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It was sweet, romantic and brutal all at the same time. The POV changes were well done, especially when Jacob's POV was told. You could slip into the mind of him whatever age he was at the time and feel it to be accurate.

Andrew and Nicholas are also very interesting characters. Sexy & smoldering comes to mind as well as ruthless, hard, loving and caring. It takes a talented author to pull characters like this off without them seeming fake or too good to be true.

There were sections in the story where I cringed, sections where my heart nearly stopped and also parts where I was laughing out loud. And at the end of it all, I still want more. Lucky for me there are more books to be series. I can't wait to read more about these three!… (mere)
