Diana Wynne Jones was born in London on August 16, 1934. In 1953, she began school at St. Anne's College Oxford and attended lectures by J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis. After graduation, she created plays for children that were performed at the London Arts Theatre. Her first book was published in vis mere 1973. She wrote over 40 books during her lifetime including Dark Lord of Derkholm, Earwig and the Witch, and the Chrestomanci series. She won numerous awards including the Guardian Award for Children's Books in 1977 for Charmed Life, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award in 1984 for Archer's Goon, the Mythopeic Award in 1999, the Karl Edward Wagner Award in 1999, and the Life Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Organization in 2007. Her book Howl's Moving Castle was adapted into an animated film by director Hayao Miyazaki, and the film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Howl's Moving Castle (World of Howl, 1) af Diana Wynne Jones

The beginning of this story had one of the most interesting first chapters. I loved that it poked fun at other well-known fairytales.
Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the rest as much. I do believe that many would love it, but it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Tropes: This book consistantly brings in tropes from all sorts of fairytales thoughout the story.

Content: nothing to worry about

Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) af Diana Wynne Jones

I saw the movie a long time ago, but I remember liking it quite a bit. The book is very different, but probably even better. The character work is amazing. I couldn't help but love them despite all their flaws, or maybe it's because of all their flaws. I still can't properly explain why is Howl so likable. Magic, I guess. The story is very strong too and did surprise me at times. It has very soft magic, which fits it very well. It's just this magical, fairytale-like world where anything can happen.… (mere)

Mixed Magics: Four Tales of Chrestomanci (C… af Diana Wynne Jones

I have previously enjoyed Witch Week and Archer's Goon but otherwise haven't been heavily into the Chrestomanci books by Dianna.
Was disappointed by Warlock at the Wheel.
Enjoyed Stealer of Souls and The Sage of Theare.

But generally, none lived up to my expectations from my previous Wynne Jones reading.

Eight Days of Luke af Diana Wynne Jones

Fun fantasy linking the old Norse gods to their days of the week. It is interesting to match the modern representations to their days as well as their place in the story. This is not a direct introduction to Norse mythology but might make an interesting bridge for a child.
