A very useful book about a book. In his view, the "Cloud of Unknowing" leads to an intensification of what ordinary Christian life should be. The author is an Irish Jesuit living in Japan.

There is something wistful in the continued emphasis on the word "dialogue", which must appear on average of twice a page. In fact, the first sentence of this book reads, "Over the past decade [1970's], mankind has made remarkable progress in the art of dialogue." That this statement now seems the apogee of naivete is a cause of considerable regret. Nonetheless, this book is well worth exploring, particularly as a practical guide to integrating eastern spiritual exercises with Christian devotional practice.… (mere)
