Everyday, Caillou sees his friend Sarah get on the schoolbus. He and his dad go out somedays to wait with her. Caillou wants to ride the schoolbus but he is not old enough to go to school yet. He asks his father if he can go for his ride, so his father asks the driver. The driver gets permission to take Caillou with him on his run one morning. Caillou enjoys it, but is happy to be back with his dad at the end of the ride.

This reminds me of the "First Ride Program" that is offered by many of the bus companies a few weeks before the young children start JK. This would be a great book for them to read to the little ones during that program or for parents to read the summer before they start school.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I mean, he's a whiner, but he's three. And in this one he finds a quiet place to play in a hollow tree where his grandpa used to play and his grandpa's old toys and all. It's sentimental tripe but I certainly don't think we can deny that sentimental tripe has its lovely side, especially in kids' books. So I truly do need to wonder what's the deal with the extensive and livid online anti-Caillou community? Why, guys? Is all this Caillou hate just this year's "why my kid is crying," by which I mean to say this year's inexplicable, ephemeral mass phenomenon, this year's planking or like, Koro syndrome for parents?… (mere)

Caillou is a cheerful little boy. His stories frist appeared in 1987 in french and he's a creation of the Canadian author Christine L'Heureux and illustrator Hélène Desputeaux. The books were adapted for television and turned into successful cartoons and books like this one are tie-ins to the TV series.
The name Caillou is french for bald and it makes sense, as our main, hugely likeable four year old character has no hairs (yet).

In this story Caillou can't wait to be old enough to ride every day to school on the school bus. His father takes him to the bus stop, that he at least can have a look at the bus and the friendly driver, Mr. Washington, invites Caillou to join him on his tour to the school and back. The wee boy is very excited, but also glad, when he is back home with his parents. "See you next year!" says the bus driver.

Caillou: The School Bus is aimed at children from the age of 3 onwards and the young ones will love the bright and colourful illustrations. The simple sentences are perfect for the target group and make for very easy and fun reading. Lovely book for toddlers and preschoolers.
