Just the chuckle I needed!
“She thought she could sneak away from the consequences of her actions for just half an hour, but consequences and bad decisions were not finished with her.”
Farm girl Maisie is cute as a button and can do most anything including get into trouble. After choosing the wrong beaux, she realizes his character and is forced by her family to keep out of his way. But she feels cooped up on the farm. Out fixing fences near a mine, she gets snoopy and removes boards from a nailed up entrance to a mine shaft to go exploring. Not only does she find a beautiful hidden cave, she finds the owner, Bragg Boone. They both marvel at God’s handiwork and agree that this discovery must be shared. Boone asks her to strike a deal to help him save his failing mine. A marriage of convenience for these two Christians makes for some interesting interactions. Lots of funny scenes, especially when Maisie and Boone play such games as hide the crystal, arm wrestling or walk on stilts. They grow closer and Boone has found in Maisie: “A rich treasure hidden beneath a rough surface. He was growing fonder of that type of treasure day by day.”
Funny and heartwarming, the mischief was refreshing and an all around good time.

Maisie is one unforgettable character and the author creates such a fun and boisterous atmosphere to fit her heroine. Maisie is a study in contradictions - full of sass and boldness yet completely naive in the ways of society, uncouth and rough around the edges yet sweet and tender. She’s definitely unexpected for the mine owner Boone who is clueless, obtuse, and awkward in relationships and dealing with emotions. They start out with hang-ups about romance so it’s extra fun to watch them stumble and bumble their way around each other in a marriage of convenience. If you enjoy historical romcom, this book definitely fits the bill.

It’s the second book from the series but can be read as a stand alone. If you’ve already met Calista in the first book, then you’d be happy with the updates on how she is doing with her Matthew.

I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

Regina Jennings’ books are just fun, and Proposing Mischief is proof of that.

In order to solve their personal and business problems, Maisie Kentworth and Boone Bragg come up with a solution or both of them: a marriage of convenience. But these two come from two different worlds, can they find a compromise and find happily ever after together?

I just loved Maisie in this book. She’s a spitfire in so many ways, but when it comes to men, she’s a little clueless. Not that Boone’s any better when it comes to women. As these two work and live together, a friendship forms and then comes more. Theirs is a slow forming appreciation and attraction that proves that love is so much more than appearance, wealth, or social standing.
