This is a fascinating story: one I knew nothing about. Its subject matter is the Phoney War and the early years of World War II as seen from the perspective of serving soldiers in France: three British, three French and a Senegalese. It's not boigraphical, but the heroes of the story - and they are heroes - are real individuals about whom only bare boiographical details are known. Kim Wilson has fleshed this out into a most interesting and informative story. But - and it's a big but - his writing style is often clumsy, with tortuous sentences and no punctuation. Worse, it's been most inadequately proof-read, and there are dozens of spelling mistakes: not 'typos', spelling mistakes. This is quite off putting. But don't let it put you off. This is a compelling account of a little known aspect of the war, and one which pays homage to the extraordinary lives of seven quite ordinary men.… (mere)
