“The number of books on the subject of the Ancient and Accepted (Scottish) Rite which have been written and published in the United Kingdom can be counted on the fingers of one hand…Like ‘All Gaul’, with which of course the Rite has a strong link, the book is divided into three parts. Part one deals with the origins, known and suspected, and the later development of the degrees which now make up the Rite; part two gives a clear story of the various ‘High Degrees’ which were floating about in England in the latter years of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th; part three relates the story of the formation of the two Supreme Councils for England and Wales and the later development of the second of the two…The seven appendices are one of the most valuable parts of the whole book. Indeed, were these appendices available as a seperate publication I would buy a copy….

III. Notes on the degrees of the A&A Rite

A Foreword by Sir Ralph Hone, the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council for England and Wales states that this book is long overdue. That is perfectly true and is all the more reason why the thirty thousand or so members of the Rite under the Supreme Council for England and Wales are lucky to have an Illustrious Brother who has produced an interesting, a most readable and historically valuable publication.”… (mere)
