Classic regional folklore prevalent in the Southern States. Standard reading for Seventh Grade reading.
The Authenticated History was originally published in 1894, which places this little tome approximately 75 years after the "witch" events first began. Fascinating reading. Most interesting was the inclusion of The Story of the Bell Witch as Detailed by Richard Williams Bell (John Bell's son), in a chapter entitled "Our Family Troubles." I did not expect to get so caught up in it. I was reminded of being in first grade -- if my friends or I fell out of a swing -- it was Bell Witch. And there was something about looking in the mirror. . . anyway, we believed. Mr. Ingram makes it abundantly clear that he did too.… (mere)
