Simultaneously interesting and underwhelming. I continually had the feeling that this book is grist for a future work of more depth. To be fair, in show business, dating, and books, it matters who you follow. For me, Night Moves came after a long run of brilliant novels, one of which was Algren's The Man With The Golden Arm, and we know what street he lived on, and what view was outside his window.… (mere)

Really earnest and engaging. So much music writing these days feels like a profile on a dating website or something. But these essays aren't trying to impress you, they're just good.

Biggest takeaways: I don't think I can ever listen to R. Kelly again. I'm going to download some Lana Del Rey?

this book's kinda all over the place. some pieces have some great lines & ideas in a mess of stuff that detracts from em. others seem kinda like they care more about their own language than the music, but i guess we've all been there. hopper's kinda more interested in personalities than breaking down the actual songs bit by bit so if that's yr jam maybe this one's for u
