Bruno Hicks

Benedictine biographies (1912). This book contains a 30 page overview of Benedictine history written by Bruno Hicks, but Hicks did not write the remainder of the book. After Hicks’ overview of Benedictine monasticism, the other listed authors provide biographies of St. Benedict, St. Gregory the Great, St. Augustine, St. Cuthbert, St. Aldhelm, St. Bede, and St. Anselm.

The section on “The Benedictines” written by Dom Bruno Hicks is very similar to the later and now classic, “The Benedictines," written in 1929 by Dom David Knowles, who was also a monk at of Downside Abbey in England.… (mere)
