This book about three very prominent sporting identities in colonial Melbourne includes an examination of their impact on the early history of football. Each of these men were pioneers of the game. Hammersley’s role in particular is explored and revealed as it has been overshadowed by Wills and Harrison. Other people such as James Thompson and Jerry Bryant are also recognised in this very handsome scholarly study.
