In Defense of Nothing: Selected Poems, 1987–2011… af Peter Gizzi
One of the greatest books of poetry I have read in some time.
This chapbk is distinct from the others in the series by its having its title on the front page diagonal in hot pink bold caps. This simple touch gives the poem a bit of OOMPH! that it might otherwise lack:
"Just a small song with a dash of spite.
A tiny thistle below the belt."

Few poems in this collection seem written to be read and understood by a reader. The language and ideas expressed therein jump about almost randomly or travel paths that I could not discern to follow. I liked the second poem entitled 'Lullaby" the best. (Why two unrelated poems given the same name?)
