I really liked the way the story started, a discussion on architecture, a love story that ends abruptly, music, introspection - sometimes a bit heavy but lulling. The second part, however, where Kyra goes into psychoanalysis is lumbering and narrow. As she explores love, it's limited to romantic love with vague allusions to other types of love. Although an attempt to rethink the process, the author locks herself into structure, the very opposite of what she wants: it lacks expressiveness, newness, wholeness. I lost interest after that; it just became another story. It's a shame because the novel has a strong foundation.… (mere)

Every MAN should be requires to read this, And regardless of how fountains on the tragic circumstances of abortion and or Roe v. Wade , read this while you search your consciences. When unread this, I was sadly, completely ignorant of the medical procedure of abortion. I baked my eyes out upon learning of the process. Gilligan gives appropriate weight to the discussion.

Understanding how we enact our basic values from within a social structure. Democracy is deeply inconsistent with Patriarchy - an ethos of care is a feminine responsibility in patriarchal structure (in which masculinity require a good dose of 'carelessness' - and tends toward 'strict father families') while it is everyone's responsibility (e.g. tends toward 'nurturant parent families'). This is a must read for anyone interested in the gendering of our values - in our shift away from patriarchy to more deeply enacted form of democracy.… (mere)
