A historical fiction from the early 1800s Canadian fur trade days. Story is told from the perspective of a North West Company employee, son of a fur trader and his 'country' wife. The story deals with the conflict between the two rival companies operating in the west; the North West Company out of Montreal and the Hudson's Bay Company operating out of London. It also deals with the conflict that the half-breed children of the 'mixed' liaisons faced in the two societies of the native aboriginals on one hand and the English and Scottish societies on the other hand.… (mere)
