This book was what I thought it would be and it was not what I thought it would be. Confusing? No. Surprising? Yes. It started out with a married couple each giving their version of how their marriage was. It was a dysfunctional marriage held together by domestic violence. A frigid wife and a cheating husband. This was the part that I understood and expected. What was unexpected was everything that came after. They way the author unfolded the story kept me questioning what was really going on with the husband, Brad. I don't really want to go all the way into the plot as I feel that you most likely read the synopsis and me going into the plot may jeopardize your enjoyment of the book. In all honesty, I wasn't enamored with any of the adult characters. That didn't stop me from wanting to read the story or even prevent me from hoping for anything. They were realistically written. They just weren't people that I would invite in my life as anything other than a neighbor or the parent of a child my child is friends with. The plot, though, I really enjoyed. In thinking about it, the characters are probably perfectly written for it. It is a bizarre tale. My love of psychology probably played a big part in way I like the story so much.

This book does describe things that happen in a relationship that involves domestic violence. Being a survivor of that, I am very aware that reading some things can trigger memories. I believe that we are all individuals with unique experiences and coping methods. So I mention this just as a heads up. I had no problem reading through this book. Some of things I did experience as I think some things are pretty typical of domestic violence. I thought the author wrote them well and kept the story moving forward. If you are a survivor interested in the book, I would say go for it. You are aware it is in there. You can prepare yourself for it and be able to keep reading, (or if something does make you uncomfortable you can always stop, skim or fast forward).

The book also contains sexual activity. I wouldn't call it hardcore porn. But the author did write out some graphic steamy scenes. I know some people don't want to read that so I mention it for them. I don't mind scenes like that myself. I thought the author did well with them. Infidelity is another subject some find objectionable that is in the book. I would like to say that infidelity happens. It happens often in dysfunctional marriages. The author wrote about it in a way that did not glorify it. Actually she showed just how well you can trust someone who is a cheater and how well they can trust too. She also included fidelity albeit in a strange way. I'll leave it to you to find out how she did all that.

The story is an interesting one. I enjoyed reading it. It easily held my attention and kept me reading. It had me guessing and analyzing the plot. If you are into books that do that, I invite you to try this one.

I participated in the Spring Into Horror Readathon and won a copy of this book. No review was requested or required. The opinions of the book are my thoughts on it. I would like to thank Michelle, who hosted the Readathon on her blog, Season of Reading, and the author who provided her book as a prize.

Single and Looking Daisy: A Funny Laugh Out Loud Feel Good Summer Read
Secret Lives of Sisters, Book 1

I Picked Up This Book Because: Author’s description in my Netgalley group on Goodreads

The Characters:

Daisy:
Shakespeare the cat:
David

The Story:

For me this did not live up to the hype of the title. I could see where the author was trying to be funny but it just wasn’t my kind of humor. It struck me as Broad City humor which I just don’t like.

I found Daisy to mostly be a hot mess. Her easy acceptance of her cat talking to her leads me to believe she is mentally unstable and I drew the line at the stalker like behavior of neighbor David. Daisy should run far far away from Mr. “I just want to watch you eat” and “sip slower” #HeebieJeebies

The Random Thoughts:

*DNF so no rating

A very interesting story! This is a dystopian story that really shows how technology can make our lives better, but at the same time, destroys us.

Defective is a story where technology was very, very advance already. This is the time where people can use technology to lengthen our lives. Imagine yourself not getting old. Yeah, it’s a little bit weird right and at the same time, really interesting on how did that happen. That’s one of the good parts of this book. You’ll be able to know how people in the future might use technology in improving our lives.

The idea was really good though many loopholes can still be found here. I have a lot of unanswered questions that I’m hoping to be answered in the next installment of the series.

The characters are very plain. A lot of them don’t have something special to like about. I also happen to not know Dante’s girlfriend because all I have here is how Dante saw her as a person. If there’s only a flashback where I could

The ending kind of disappoints me because it looks like rushed and the main problem or Dante’s aim was not solved. They only discover something about the Commonwealth, but their main goal to find Dante’s girlfriend was not met.

The story is also short, so anyone who would read this will only spend a day to finish the book. And somehow, this novel even scares me, and I don’t want something like this to happen in the future. Just a NO. Big NO!

If the author can only rewrite this book and lengthen more the words and pages, put more scenes that would really improve the characters and tell me more about the world in the future and how it started and who are the people behind it, this novel will have potential to be noticed more and may become big someday.

If you are intrigued by what kind of future this book will tell you, then you should read this and tell me what’s on your mind about it.

***I received this ARC from Netgallery in exchange for an honest review***

This book was amazing!!! First, i was intrigued by the name and then when i read the blurb , it was defined there and then, i had to read this book and i'm so glad i did!

I had no idea prior to starting this book that it was a POV ,I usually hate POV stories, i hate being being stuck in one characters head for an entire chapter so i try to avoid books like that. This book had POV from the three main characters so that worked well.

It took a while for me to connect with the characters. I was still struggling to understand what was going on after a couple of chapters, i was so lost but after those chapters things picked up so fast and i literally could not stop reading.

A thrilling story about twisted characters ,what you would do for love and how far you would go to get it. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
