No Man's Land af Ruth Fowler
Adult nonfiction/memoir. A stripper tells all, but rambles a bit in the process. Fowler is a writer that turned to stripping when she couldn't get work (due to visa problems)--she comes off as one of those bad spoken word poets sometimes--loves to rant, hear herself speak.
Despite my love of memoirs in general, and ones dealing with sexuality, etc. in particular, I didn't enjoy this memoir a great deal for two reasons. The first reason is that I didn't like her style of writing - I found it chaotic and difficult to follow at times. The second reason is much more personal and much more subjective: while I could understand her suffering, I wonder if she's unaware that her life was a mess (that is, she was unhappy and engaging in behavior that made her even more so) before she started stripping.… (mere)
