This is on the CLEL shortlist for "sing" and honestly, I like it a lot. I find it better than "Kate Writes a Song". I'm excited to use this with children and work on clapping and snapping and following rhythm. I also plan on extending it to breaking down words and syllables.

Kat is having a rough day. So she writes a song to make it better.....and then everything changes! Things do get better!!!! Yet when Kat encounters something that can't automatically become better, she gets really sad and depressed. Maybe she wasn't making much of a difference after all. Yes, it turns out she was wrong.

I didn't love the book. I didn't hate the book. But I do like how it handles things not going a person's way. That is a vital life lesson people need to learn.

Greg Foley draws the most expressive bear with the sparest illustrations. Little Bear spends his day looking for good luck, but with the help of his mouse friend he realizes that luck is what you make it.

AHHHHHhhhhhhhhh. Bear has a box that he thinks is wonderful, but others have him doubting his own opinion. But his opinion is his own, and it works out in the end. This story is simple, but so heartfelt, you sigh with happiness at the turn of the last page.
